One of the highlights of WOMAD UK festival this summer was to take a stroll with 3 members of underground sensation, Afriquoi. The band blend Congolese guitar and Gambian kora virtuosity with UK electronic sensibilities to create captivating, dancefloor- friendly new music for a new generation of world music fans with one foot in the clubs. Based in London, every Afriquoi musician is a band leader in their own right with members ranging in age across 3 decades, originating from Africa, the Carribean and the UK. They touched down at WOMAD off the back of their newest studio release, their Abobo Nation Part 1 LP, a must-have album for lovers of African dance music.
