Auntie Flo curates playlist for Wilfredo Lam exhibition at Tate

DJ and producer, Brian d’Souza aka Auntie Flo shares his selection of tracks inspired by The EY Exhibition: Wifredo Lam.

Wifredo Lam, was a Cuban artist who sought to portray and revive the enduring Afro-Cuban spirit and culture. Inspired by and in contact with some of the most renowned artists of the 20th century, Lam melded his influences and created a unique style, which was ultimately characterized by the prominence of hybrid figures. Though he was predominantly a painter, he also worked with sculpture, ceramics and printmaking in his later life.

‘I was particularly inspired by Wifredo Lam‘s earliest work and his Afro-Cuban heritage. The playlist takes you through songs that represent different stages of his life in a sort of chronology, focussing more on the Afro-Cuban and religious influences that Lam had. ‘

The Exhibition runs until the 8th of January 2017. To find out more about the exhibition and the reasoning behind each of Brian’s song choices click here.
