This April will see the release of a brand new collaborative album – the first of its kind for a full-length LP – that aims to blend two major exports of the Caribbean; Cuban and Jamaican music.
Havana Meets Kingston is the brainchild of Australian reggae producer Mista Savona who is overseeing a large team of musicians and producers all contributing to a glorious marriage of roots reggae, dub and dancehall on the one hand and son, salsa, rumba and Afro-Cuban on the other.
The remit is for each island’s established musical legacies to be honoured and their foundations preserved whilst also creating something entirely new. Featured artists include Sly & Robbie, Barbarito Torres (Buena Vista Social Club), Bongo Herman (Rockers), Ernest Ranglin, Leroy Sibbles (The Heptones), Changuito and Rolando Luna (Buena Vista Social Club).
The production of Havana Meets Kingston will also be subject of an independent documentary celebrating the stories and music of the artists involved against the backdrop of two diverse nations.
The full album is due for release in April 2017 with first single ‘Carnival’ feat. Randy Valentine & Solis dropping on January 23.
