Danay Suárez dips her toes in jazz, reggae, soul and folkloric Cuban music but she is best known as one of the brightest stars in the Cuban Hip-hop scene. Her moving verses run deep with conscious political and social statement and her vocal reach and versatility has set her apart from other Havana artists. Since her first recordings 10 years ago she has increasingly gained international exposure and worked with artists such as Roberto Fonseca, Gilles Peterson and Mala (Digital Mystikz).
On the 7th March she makes a very exciting return to the Hip-hop charts as she drops her first album in 6 years. Labelled Palabras Manuales it will be produced by Roberto Fonseca with the first single from the album Integridad featuring Stephen Marley arriving on the 17th February. With this album she aims to bring about a more universal message – a reflection on sentimental values as well as socio-political situations – and to show the world as well as her own country that Cuba has one of the leading Hip-hop scenes in Latin America.
We are pumped for this incoming release. Here is one of our favourite Danay Suárez tracks:
