Divinities of the Earth and the Waters is a story about humanity, the shared history and cultural interconnections, as well as a psychedelic journey into one’s own self, fears and moral dilemmas represented through a sequence of events based on South Slavic and other Balkan traditions, festivities and musical styles. The plot follows one protagonist from his early adulthood to his own funeral ceremony.
It is a journey through the everyday realisation of the human condition, from the societal place we occupy to the grief and sadness for the loved ones we loose along the way as well as the ever changing nature of our own beliefs and moral codes.
Musically Mimika’s sound world has been described as a mix of progressive rock, jazz and traditional music and in this album we explore this world further.
The Album will consist of 7 lenghty compositions, featuring members of the Orchestra (Vocals, Brass, Woodwinds doubling on Clarinets and Flutes, Rhythm Section, Live Electronics) as well as guests playing authentic folk instruments (Greek Lyra, Croatian Tambura and other).
Musically, it is an album full of orchestral twists, complex arrangements, lyrics in the old Kajkavian dialect of the South Slavic language family, uneven rhythms based on Balkan traditional music, heavy grooves, synthesizers, live electronics, instrumental solos, solis and free improvisations.
Divinities of the Earth and the Waters will express our real and imagined worlds and we are really excited to share this with you.
The album will include all of the musicians regularly involved in the Mimika Orchestra as well as some international guests. These are some of our favourite musicians and artists in the world and through this project a multitude of voices and interpretations will be heard.
The album is dedicated and inspired by our former drummer Oberon King (1991 – 2015) who we shared a great adventure touring the Croatian Coast in 2014 as well as many others…
Mimika still need to raise just over £1000 to mix, master, print and distribute this wonderful project, so let’s help them out by sharing this news or donating here.
