It would be fair to say that 2017 has so far been fruitful when it comes to new releases, however we reserve special excitement for this fresh slice of musical goodness from New Zealand multi-instrumentalist Mike Fabulous, under the guise of Lord Echo.
Arriving slightly later than initially scheduled due to Mike’s perfectionist approach to re-cultivating his unique blend of styles, Harmonies is the third album to stem from the Lord Echo setup. This delay, coupled with universal adoration for his first two albums, Melodies and Curiosities, has resulted in fever pitch for this latest instalment.
Released on the Soundway Records, Harmonies perfectly demonstrates Fabulous’ blend of musical textures, with Latin, disco and soul elements permeating a base of Reggae and Rocksteady, the basis for Lord Echo’s style. Standouts include the single ‘Just Do You’, featuring Mara TK on vocals, as well as ‘Note from Home’ featuring Toby Laing, of Fat Freddy’s Drop fame.
Soundway have also agreed to release this in the form of 12” LP, and a more DJ-friendly 2×12” Double LP. Expect to hear this on dancefloors all over this summer.
