Banana Hill’s (BH) first-ever release is proudly delivered by label and club night co-founder, Cervo. BH’s parties over the last seven years have consistently showcased their love for multi-genre spanning music coupled to an innate, afrocentric taste. Furthermore, Cervo has recently teamed up with Thris Thian (Boiler Room & Worldwide FM) to form the Global Roots Soundsystem duo, masterfully delivering their wealth of afro-beat/jazz infused music behind the decks.
For BH’s 001, Cervo reinstates two tracks from Moroccan composer Majid Bekkas’ 2001 album, Africa Gnaoua Blues. As an artist, Majid spent some of his time attempting to fuse traditional Gnawa music with afro-american blues. Cervo takes these efforts and on his A-side we encounter an edit for Sudan Manayou, a respectful nod to the original instruments and their sounds with pronounced claps that keep the groove moving forward during a delightful 8 minutes. On the reverse we find Mrhaba, a spiritual club-friendly rework with an appreciable flute presence that is sure to place listeners in a blissful dance.
Banana Hill 001 is released on June 5th on Digital and Vinyl via Bandcamp.
