Body of work is Champagne Funk x Balamii Radio’s new video series, focusing on some of our favourite bands and their albums/EPs (i.e. bodies of work) from 2017. Shot across various London venues, these videos feature exclusive live performances from the artists as well as interviews in which they reveal the inspiration, themes and process behind their releases. The videos give us an intimate insight to the artists, painting a colourful picture of the UK’s landscape in forward-thinking jazz and worldly sounds. As a collective and radio station that have supported the work of these talented musicians for a long time, it is a real pleasure to be able to shine a well-earned spotlight on some of their more recent work, beginning with the first three episodes from Collocutor, Ishmael Ensemble and The Scorpios.
Body of Work’s first instalment comes from Collocutor, a 7-piece modal jazz group led by saxophonist Tamar Osborn. Drawing varied global influences from afro-beat, Indian classical, minimalism and beyond, Tamar’s intriguing compositions have granted them widespread support from jazz fans across the globe. For this exclusive performance recorded at the Total Refreshment Centre in Dalston, Collocutor perform tracks from their LP The Search as well as an arrangement of Miles Davis’ Black Satin, forthcoming via On The Corner Records.
