MARINA caught up with Lorenzo from Fly By Night Music to get a glimpse of what 2018 has in store for the label based in London but with its ears in Italy, the USA and more..
– What is the motive of Fly By Night Music?
It is still hard for me to define a motive after 6 years of operating the label, but definitely to keep it dynamic and never static, and never boring.
– What plans do you have for 2018?
Next up is a mini album of 8 tracks from STRATA-GEMMA, a trio hail from Modena, the Northern Italian motor city.
From there we’ll move to Milano and Napoli where 291out are from, for a second appearance on the label produced by Riccio and myself. This time with a cover version of ‘Habbanera’ by James Senese, including an alternative version taken from the movie ‘No grazie, il caffè mi rende nervoso’ by Ludovico Gasparini. AND a very special remix, but I can’t tell you who is on duty. Sorry!
Also, I have already started to select some tracks for another Italian library compilation… this will take a while before comes out. So yeah a lot of plans!
– What’s your personal favourite record you’ve released on your label?
If I have to choose one, it will be probably Jimmy Chambers – You Can’t Fight It. I am a big fan of John Carpenter’s score.
– So far this year, what is the key record you’ve been playing?
For sure is Step Time Orchestra – Jazz Error NYC, a collaboration between Finnish producer Jori Hulkkonen and Tuomas Salmela.
– Where can we hear you play next?
At Brilliant Corners on Jan 27th, Isabelle and I will be representing FBNM with RICCIO jetting over from Eivissa especially!
