The highly anticipated We Out Here compilation is launching this week, a primer for London’s bourgeoning young jazz scene, this new compilation brings together a collection of some of its sharpest talents. The album was recorded across 3 days, under the musical direction of saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings and produced and pressed in London.
We are excited to premiere Go See by Joe Armon-Jones. Joe delivers a playful, improvisatory approach, showcasing everything he has learned on his musical journey so far. Full of ad-libs and stunning solos, the piece is almost hypnotic in its musicality. As well as being a founding member of the Ezra Collective he has performed with a wide range of artists from Pharoahe Monch, to ATA KAK, and is a regular fixture in the bands of Nubya Garcia, Idiom, China Moses and Binker Golding Quartet. The Wire described his playing as sounding like ‘post-flying Lotus MPC bashing beat cut ups’.
Joe Armon-Jones performed live last night at Total Refreshment Centre for one of two events as part of the We Out Here launch, alongside Kokoroko and Theon Cross. Triforce, Maisha, Nubya Garcia will play tonight! We Out Here is released on the 9th of February via Brownswood Records. You can pre-order your copy here.
