Premiere: David Walters – Kryé Mwen

Creole Soul – are just two words needed for David Walters to summarize his first outing for French label Heavenly Sweetness.

Creole culture that crosses oceans and continents allowing Africa, America, Europe and the Caribbean to converse in the language of music, dance and carnival. Once scattered around the globe, these different Creole cultures found a point where they were first represented: New York.
It was while in that city that David Walters decided to pave the way for his forthcoming LP  ‘Soleil Kreyol’

After a five years spent traveling the world working with musicians for the TV programme “The New Explorers” (Canal +), David decided to start constructing this Créole infused long player. A main inspiration for this album was him retracing the steps of his grandfather Nelson, a tap dancer and chef, who had migrated from the West Indian island of St Kitts & Nevis to New York, during the early waves of immigration.

Lead single from the LP ‘Kryé Mwen’ shows exactly how this NYC sound absorbed its way into David’s music – a slightly hedonistic inspired 70s and 80s roller, think late nights in The Palladium or Studio 54, moving to the tight bass line and smooth key chords on this late night mover. With one foot in those flamboyant disco clubs while the other walks forward to today’s modern dancefloor culture.

Instrumentation here is courtesy of musical mastermind, Bruno “Patchworks” Hovart (AKA Mr. President, Voilààà Sound System) who turned out to be the perfect sound engineer on this project. Recorded between Paris and Lyon, David and Patchworks wrote, composed, recorded and played all the instruments on ‘Kryé Mwen’. Pre-order your copy from the Heavenly Sweetness Bandcamp page here.
