Band on the Wall Recordings unveil its fourth release from The Singles Club, their 7” series supporting a selection of Manchester most exciting rising artists.
Following support from the likes of Jamie Cullum (BBCR2), Jazz FM & more, Manchester keyboardist, composer and producer Matt Wilde steps up with his debut physical release, having spent much of his early years laying the foundations of his musical development through workshops at Band on the Wall.
Surrounded by MCs, rappers and musicians recording hip hop and grime from an early age, Matt has been enveloped by Manchester’s many cultures, feeding into the music he makes and that continues to inspire him. A truly feel-good slice of musical goodness centred around Matt’s lyrical, virtuosic and jazz-leaning keys, ‘Every Story / Pivot’ delivers wondrous blends of hip-hop and jazz elements. Accompanying Matt’s piano and analogue synth work is Stan Scott on bass, Joe Luckin on drums and Aaron Wood on Flugelhorn.
Both ‘Every Story’ and ‘Pivot’ depict a reflection. As put by Matt, “Everyone has their own story; they have something unique to share with the world which encapsulates the highs and lows of their individual lives, and that can resonate with other human beings. By taking the time to listen to every story from different perspectives, we can hear voices that are unheard and undervalued.”
On ‘Pivot’, Matt says, “Our lives pivot between different perspectives and moments that can change the direction we’re travelling in. Unexpected shifts of reality and emotion. ‘Pivot’ depicts the contrast between moments of stillness and moments of energy”.
