Italian musician, producer, DJ and composer Tommaso Cappellato is a musical maverick – running the gamut from free-form techno to hip-hop production and jazz improvisation. After releasing his debut album, Aforemention, he returns just before releasing his EP Aforemention Remixed, with the release of the R’n’Free single, featuring Natalie May. The London based singer-songwriter, gives her interpretation of R’n’Free, in a beautifully melodic soul recording.
The rework of R’n’Free came about from a random encounter, since the London-based soul singer Natalie May happened to be in the audience at Cappellato’s London show at Jazz Refreshed and improvised her melody to “R’n’Free”, recording it straight onto her phone right then and there. The London based singer-songwriter, gives her interpretation of R’n’Free, in a melodic soul recording with soft vocals that seem to fit perfectly with the melody of the track.
Since releasing his acclaimed debut album Aforemention (Mashibeats/Ropeadope/Mental Groove), drummer, DJ and producer Tommaso Cappellato has taken his solo project to live stages all over the world. From Los Angeles’ Low End Theory to New York’s NUBLU, from Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Festival Leysin to Kyoto’s legendary Club Metro. The single will be followed by the release of the Aforemention Remixed EP, coming out June 1. Each rework came into being through a story of friendship, comradery or even random encounters, as in the case of Natalie May. The EP that will follow will include four stunning re-interpretations of songs from Cappellato’s longplayer, lovingly reimagined by talent from all over the planet. You can pre-order the EP here.
